On This Day… Rushdie’s Fatwa

On February 14th, 1989, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini placed a fatwa on the head of Salman Rushdie. The Ayatollah condemned Rushdie to death because he found his novel, The Satanic Verses, offensive to Islam. 27 rough years later, Rushdie is still alive, although the fight for free speech is not yet finished.
